Her move from the city of her birth to Los Angeles when she was at the age of 19 and began in order to study acting. Handler began performing to earn cash. However, when she was age 21, Handler decided to pursue standing-up comedy on a regular basis, since she discovered her storytelling talents. Handler made her debut on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly, a reality show with the use of a hidden camera/practical joke. The show ran from 2002 to 2005. The handler then began appearing on other TV shows such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her work as a correspondent on The Tonight Show as a correspondent. Handler made her breakthrough in 2006, when she started hosting her own show on E! named The Chelsea Handler Show. It ran for two seasons. The next year, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all aired her stand-up performances. It was announced in the year 2010 that she will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards 2010. She was the only female host of the VMAs following Roseanne Bar.
